Ireland's Tax Favors Online Casinos

The word is out - Ireland says no to taxing online gambling. In a hotly debated issue regarding benefits versus pitfalls of taxing the online gambling sector, the Irish Finance Ministry has decided to uphold the government's policy of a zero-tax on online gambling. This they believe will yield significant benefits to the industry and the country. No tax equals greater opportunity for growth and employment. That's the sentiment of the ministry which feels that tax would serve only to deter online casinos from operating in Ireland's cyberspace. If a tax were imposed, the feeling is that there would be a massive flight of online casino operators to tax-free havens elsewhere. For now The decision is not cast in stone and the ministry wants more time to examine the fine print of such a decision. The view is that the employment created by allowing a tax-free haven for online casinos well outweighs the benefits of taxing them. However, in what is merely a minor adjustment, land-based Irish casinos have had their taxes increased 1% to 2%. This increase does not apply to phone betting.

Minister Takes on Online Gambling

Irish online gambling companies face the prospect of a US-style ban on online gambling if a government minister carries through with previous threats. Minister for Sport Martin Cullen threatened in April to ban Internet gambling if bookmakers don't contribute more money to the government's Horse and Greyhound Racing Fund. If Cullen has his way, the government will reduce its contribution to the fund by around 1.5 million Euros this year, and will expect bookmakers to pick up the bill. Cullen said that a levy of 0.5 percent on online gambling would bring over 100 million Euros into the fund, adding that most betting is now offshore and that the government will be forced to make choices. He did say, however, that he would prefer alternative action to an outright ban on Internet gambling. With no major developments reported since, it remains to be seen whether a compromise will be struck between the government and the gambling industry or whether more drastic action will be taken.

Jackpot City Entices Irish Players

JackpotCity, a name and casino that has been around for over 10 years has launched an exciting new television campaign in an effort to enhance brand recognition and boost player numbers in Ireland. Emphasis has been placed on brand exposure and the backing of JackpotCity's secure namesake. Affiliate program ReferBack has set on a Europe-wide TV ad which will play on mostly late night channels such as TV3 and E3, further establishing it as a large multimedia marketing agency. With funky and crisp graphics jumping about the screen designed to invoke a fun, relaxed atmosphere, Irish players will be sure to check out the site even if just out of curiosity due to the slickness of the campaign. Of course, the lure of the large € 1 million jackpot doesn't hurt either! However, new and old players are not the only ones to benefit from this new campaign. Affiliates and publishers will achieve increased brand awareness, as well as boost their own income brackets as the game titles are prominently displayed within the commercial itself, leading players directly to their games. With the luck of the Irish and high spread of internet players looking for some relaxing 'craic', ReferBack's campaign for JackpotCity is sure to entice players to give the casino and bingo brands much deserved attention next time they come to play online.

Murray Second in Wimbledon Odds

Until Rafael Nadal pulled out of the Wimbledon 2009 competition, where he was seeded number one, 5 time champion Roger Federer was seeded second. What will be the fate of Andy Murray, second in the bookmakers' odds: will he triumph in the end as well? Nadal's departure has left the stage - or shall we say Centre Court - to three tennis players: Roger Federer, Andrew Murray and Novak Djokovic. They are the top three on any sportsbetting site today. The 2009 Wimbledon tennis tournament begins June 22. Federer and murray will meet only in the Finals, if they both make it. That is what the odds predict them to do, with the Swiss champ a 10/11 favorite on most all sports betting sites, and 8/11 on William Hill Sports, which makes Murray's run for the title a little more likely in the eyes of the UK bookmaker. The Englishman enjoys 15/8 odds on William Hill Sports, ahead of Djokovic at 10/1. Following them is American Andy Roddick - at 14/1. Victor Chandler Bet, however, takes on the London and sportsbetting Murray-mania in another way, accepting bets on the specific category of what stage will Murray drop out of the competition.
