Practice Your Casino Skills

What has brought Singaporean players to practice their casino skills anew?

Two new Integrated Resorts (IRs) in Singapore are expected to create 20,000 jobs in a struggling market. That is no small figure for the small city-state. More significant, in our eyes, is the new gambling trend that they had already brought about.

Singaporeans are going back to school to learn casino skills.

And it's not only the chance to play at the casinos. it is also the new employment opportunities that have now become relevant.

Management courses at the School D'Hospitality include courses on becoming a dealer at a casino. Other places to learn the ins and outs of the roulette table are online casinos, of course.

Not only is enrollment up, says Mr Yeh Choy Yan, 42, the school's executive director, from 100 to 150 students last year to 350 currently enrolled, half of them take casino classes.

"In Singapore, the casino is a very new opportunity, a very niche market. It's very exciting," he said.
One IR is expected to open at the end of 2009 and the other early in 2010.
