The History of Poker

The history of the game is currently in debate as new historians claim that it has Persian rather than German routes. Nonetheless, a version is known of from 15^th century Germany, called Pochspiel. It is generally believed that the current name came from the Irish Poca, meaning pocket, or the French version Poque.

Modern day poker

Modern Poker is a unique phenomenon, drawing crowds from around the world who simply want to watch the masters at play. Its heavy reliance on strategy, numeric intelligence and the fine art of bluffing, make it a delicious spectacle that people willingly pay money to see.

Poker Game rules

1. Traditionally, 5 cards are dealt to each player by the dealer
2. The player the may then request additional cards and place bets for the following round
3. Other players may meet the bet, and sometimes raise it (depending on local rules)
4. Eventually, the dealer calls the players hands, and they must show their cards
5. The player with the highest card value wins
