Craps
Craps is ancient. With its roots lying amongst the journeys of the crusaders, the game later received an honorary French flavour (the word crapaud actually means ‘toad,' from which the game received its name) and was then passed on to the US, where it began its true rise to fame.
Betting
Bets can be made in two ways:
- Bet against other players - street craps
- Bet against the bank - bank craps
Bank craps
This is when you play against the casino, which covers the players' bets and chooses odds regarding its payout scheme.
- Players take turns rolling two dice
- The player who rolls is called the shooter
- Other players standing around the table can place bets on the shooter's rolls
- The game is played in several rounds
Game play
Many experienced players practice a strategy called Optimal Betting, a pre-determined set of decisions and bets that optimise your chances of winning. Of course, the ultimate strategy is to be the house, but understandably the casinos have reserved this privilege for themselves.
